GREATER PEACE ALBERTA TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION #13 PEACE RIVER SCHOOL DIVISION FRAME OF REFERENCE FOR TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND
The Teacher Professional Development Fund strives to address individual teachers’ professional learning needs. The June 2023 collective agreement provision was negotiated on behalf of members to allow teachers to access a pool of funds in the amount $60,000 per year from the Peace River School Division. This amount is in addition to the existing $18,000 from the Greater Peace ATA Local #13 for the Peace River School Division teachers. The professional development fund cannot be greater than $90,000 at the school year end. This agreement is effective September 1, 2023.
ATA Local #13. Committee members will be reviewed at the annual general meeting. The committee accepts grant applications from September 1st to June 1st each school year. Applications will be accepted and reviewed as received, at a minimum of biweekly. This will allow teachers to apply for a grant for summer professional development as well as during the school year. Applications will be considered in the order they are submitted. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified within 30 days of the receipt of their application. Grants will be approved until all funds are exhausted or until June 1st.
Guidelines for the Teacher Professional Growth Fund Application 1. Professional development grant applications must relate directly to the teacher's professional growth plans, division goals, school goals, or the current assignment of the teacher. This grant may include post secondary. Applicants shall be eligible for a grant of up to $750.00. 2. Post secondary grant applications will allow for post secondary courses, trade certificate programs, and graduate programs are eligible for this grant. Applicants shall be eligible for a grant of up to $750.00. 3. Teachers’ convention grant applications will be accepted for attending designated conventions in the 2023-2024 school year. Convention grant applications shall be eligible for up to $200 reimbursement with applicable expense claims such as meals, hotel, and gas receipts. Subsequent school years may be added and will be discussed at the annual general meeting. Applications are available here 4. Teachers may apply for professional development, post secondary, and teacher convention grants within the same school year.

Applications accepted between September 1st - June 1st . 3. Applications will be reviewed and approved by the professional development sub-committee in the order they are received within a two week period. 4. Applications must be submitted two weeks prior to the proposed professional development to receive reimbursement within 30 days of the professional development. 5. Applications submitted after the proposed professional development will not be eligible for reimbursement until after June 1st of the current school year and will be dependent on the amount of residual professional development funds. 6. An expense form must be completed and scanned/photocopied itemized receipts must be attached to the declaration of expense form. The Peace River School Division section of the Greater Peace Local #13 will reimburse approved expenses such as registration costs, course curricular supplies, transportation, meals, accommodations. 7.
